Tweetsie Railroad
Celebrating 50 years of unforgettable family memories, Tweetsie Railraid is the place for old-fashioned entertainment ! Tweetsie Railroad is a one of a kind family style attraction that allows children and their parents to explore their imaginations and more. You can be a cowboy, Indian or an engineer and take a ride on our famous steam engine train, Number 12. Its listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Ashe Arts Council
Located inside the Ashe Arts Center in West Jefferson, The Gallery consists of shifting exhibits of local artists, music, poetry, literature and much more. During the summer season, the Ashe Arts Council also sponsors the Friday evening "Gallery Crawl", which features thirteen galleries, studios and shops.

Mount Jefferson State Park
Resting approximately 1,600 feet above the nearby landscape, Mount Jefferson State Park over looks Ashe County and the towns that rest at the feet of Mount Jefferson.
While Mount Jefferson is splendid from afar, it is best enjoyed up close. On a clear day, Mount Jefferson´s 360 degree view will allow you to see Grandfather Mountain in nearby Avery County or to the mountains of southwest Virginia, including Mount Rogers. You can stand on "The Rock" that overlooks such wonders and feel like you´re flying!
However what appears on the horizon is no more spectacular than what is right before your eyes, for the forests of Mount Jefferson State Park are a delight unto themselves. A variety of trails and overlooks await, or you can enjoy a picnic in the woods or in the pavilion.

Cheese Plant
Ashe County Cheese plant is North Carolina's oldest cheese plant, producing superior cheese since 1930. You can watch the process of cheese making from our viewing area, and then visit the cheese shop to purchase your favorite cheeses and gifts. The Cheese Plant sells over 20 varieties of original Ashe County Cheese as well as their own county butter, homemade fudge and a visitor favorite, fresh cheese curd. The store also offers locally made wines and a variety of gifts, and old fashioned snacks and candies.

Grayson Highlands Park
Grayson Highlands State Park is located next to the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area in the Jefferson National Forest. This area is a treasure to behold and well worth repeat visits. A day hike could allow you to view most of the scenic prizes that await, but one could easy spend days exploring the variety of hiking paths available, over 400 sq miles of trail to be exact, including the Appalachian trail. Swimming, picnicking, fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, mounting biking and horse riding are all available.

Virginia Creeper Trail
The Virginia Creeper Trail extends approx. 35 miles from scenic Whitetop, Virginia down the mountain thru Damascus, all the way to Abingdon, Virginia. The Virginia Creeper Trail is enjoyed by hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders.

Scream Time Zipline

Located in Watuga County, the Scream Time Zipline is the first 2000 foot long "triple wide" zipline in the U.S. The zip line zips through the air at 50 mph above the trees!

The Blowing Rock
Being North Carolina's oldest attraction since 1933, The Blowing Rock is an colossal cliff 4,000 feet above sea level overhanging Johns River Gorge 3,000 feet below. The Blowing Rock features the Rock which holds many local legends, as well as a garden, a shop, and an eatery. Open all year weather permitting in Blowing Rock, North Carolina.

Grandfather Mountain
Grandfather Mountain is a privately owned and operated scenic travel attraction. The park has an internationally known nature preserve, featuring Black Bears, River Otters, Cougars, Eagles and Deer . With an elevation of 5,946 ft above sea level, the park features the "Mile High Swinging Bridge", hiking trails, a museum and restaurant.

Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir
A beautiful and adventurous lake set in the foothills of Northwest North Carolina. Recreation and leisure areas circle the 55-mile shore of the lake. Things to do at the lake include everything from fishing, hiking, skiing, boating ,and biking to camping and picnicking. The Kerr Scott Dam features three campgrounds, a marina, swimming areas, and a bookstore/ museum (visitor center).

New River State Park
The New River State Park, which sits along the Historic New River, offers three access points from which visitors can fish, canoe, tube, camp, hike, and picnic and view breath-taking mountain surroundings. The three access areas provide campsite access for canoers and walk-in campsites, all with tables and fire rings.

Mystery Hill
For 50 years, visitors come from all over to visit Mystery Hill, and then come back again to experience the mystery of the "crooked house." For generations, strange phenomena, such as a ball rolling uphill, or people standing at a 45° angle, have been entertaining and bewildering guests to Mystery Hill. A family oriented "edutainment" center offering fun for children and adults!

Linville Caverns
Linville Caverns are active limestone caverns located near the villages of Linville Falls, North Carolina on U.S. Highway 221. It is North Carolina's only cavern. The caverns are open to the public year round for guided tours. A gift shop also featured on the premises.
